Wellness Wednesday: Love

What is more fitting today than to talk about love as we approach the most commercially celebrated day, Valentine’s day, this weekend? Too Western you cry? Well we blacks also get to celebrate Black Love day on February 13th, which has been observed since 1993 mostly by African Americans.

What is love you ask? Love is an action-supported-word (verb) because it is through action that you know you are loved or not. We need to also acknowledge that it can have a different meaning to different people.

Love is complex. A mix of emotions, behaviors, and beliefs associated with strong feelings of affection, protectiveness, warmth, and respect for another person. …For example, a person might say he or she loves his or her dog, loves freedom, or loves God – source: goodtherapy.org

With that said…Valentine’s coming, where is your boyfriend…abena bena bena beeena where is your boyfriend? **chuckles**

As Valentine’s day approaches, some might feel lonely as they have no one to spoil or be spoiled by. Of course some may argue or dispute the need to “show love” on this specific day as there are other 364 days to do so.  So what? Just be cliched for once in your life and carpe diem, it aint that deep bro.

A few ideas to love your single self a little extra on this day and if you already do this then do it all over again:

  • Lunch at a new restaurant
  • Picnic with a book/Netflix/Showmax
  • Shop till you drop
  • Full day spa
  • Buy yourself flowers
  • Hang out with your single friends

To those with partners, give gifts without expecting and go over and above where you can or want. Most of all just let your hair down and celebrate being in love and loved by your person….life’s too short!
